As a Dominican, Vincent of Beauvais was a theology teacher at the Cistercian abbey of Royaumont for more than ten years. The texts of the Speculum Maius, the encyclopedia he compiled, and his educational writings make it clear that he had a great deal of knowledge of theological subjects.

Besides, Vincent wrote at least seven separate treatises on religious and theological matters. Recent research shows that some of these works were quite popular in the Middle Ages and during the early modern period. Very little is known about their content. Vincent's theological treatises are now subject of research by Hans Voorbij.
